BMW M Performance Series To Debut In Geneva Auto Show, Pricing Announced

BMW is engineering its way back to the #-Link-Snipped-#. The German auto giant is planning to debut its M series performance with the launch of 4 vehicles. The company has already #-Link-Snipped-# of quartet viz; BMW M550d xDrive, BMW M550d xDrive Touring, BMW X5 M50d and BMW X6 M50d. This quartet is collectively called M performance series. These will be available in selected European markets in the beginning.

The cars which have been crafted to define ‘speed’ feature an engine with state-of-art patented technology. The engine has an induction process with geometry turbochargers and a common-rail injection system specifically developed for BMW M series. It has been designed to work with 31,000 psi pressure while developing a maximum 545 lb-ft torque of within a range of 2000-3000 rpm. The power-plant propels vehicle forward with 376 horsepower at 4,000 rpm. The engine thus developed is an advanced version of widely seen twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine. Outside, the engine is connected to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and features a four wheel drive.

Speaking of individual cars, M550d xDrive sedan can accelerate 0-to-62-mph within 4.7 seconds. This is only second to the recently introduced sixth generation M5. Moreover, #-Link-Snipped-# has also planned to have fuel efficient vehicles for a luxury range. Even the least efficient among them- X6 M50d capable of reaching 62 mph from rest in 5.3 seconds and consuming 7.7 liters/ 100KM. X5 M50d accomplishes the same feat but with a lag of 0.1 second and consuming 7.5 liters/100 KM. The figures are 6.4 liter/100KM and 4.9 seconds for M550d xDrive touring.

Looking at the above specs, it is sure that tough competition will be seen at the Geneva auto show. BMW has always involved itself in #-Link-Snipped-#. However, this time it appears that it is keen on making itself limited to Europe. This perhaps relates to the laws of adopting selective catalytic reduction technology aka SCR for a car launched in North America. However, it would not be long when the car manufacturer will come up with a comprehensive solution.
