BM BULAT- The Incredible Killing Machine

What comes to our mind when we say an army? Yes you are right. They are the huge and giant army tanks that traverse your mind. They being the backbone of the defense of any nation, let us now try get a mandatory information about the tanks that are a vital force in protecting our country and us. As a result of the latest development in the technology of the tanks of Ukraine, I would like to provide some information on it.

[IMG]The BM Bulat main tank also known as the Obyekt 447AM 1  is a modernized version of T 64B MBT. The original tank was upgraded in 1976 and the production started in1980. The upgraded Bulat version was ready in 1999. This ultimate destruction machine entered the battlefield first in 2005. It has a crew of three people and has a weight of 45 tonnes. Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau (KMDB) has developed this machine and the  Malyshev factory is the manufacturer. The length of the machine is 9.9m and the width is 4.6m. So now I bet you can imagine the gigantic tank! To add to the list, let me now clarify that this killing machine has a maximum speed of 70 kmph and a range of 385 km.

In April 2009, the Ukrainian ministry signed a $25.1 million  contract with Malyshev factory to upgrade 29 tanks. The Ukraine Army received 10 BM Bulat MBTs in October 2010. The remaining 19 tanks are expected to be delivered in 2011. This new tank has improved fire power, mobility and protection as compared to the old tank. It also has a night sighting system which makes it even more versatile. Moreover this tank has a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an automatic 28 round reload facility. It has a firing range of 2500 m in daylight and of 1500 m in the night. This tank can also fire laser laser guided missiles. A new 1A45 Irysh fire control system has been fitted to the BM Bulat tank. The 2 types of diesel engines for the tank:

1.    5TDF gives 850 HP. (two-stroke, five-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine)

2.    6TD 1 gives 1000 HP.

The exhaust and the air cleaning sections are also redesigned. The tank is too good but  I feel a crew of three people to control the tank is too much. Can’t the tank be more automated? This would help in implementing the rest of the manpower in more needed and productive areas. What is your opinion?
