Blackberry CurveTouch Without Physical Keyboard

It looks like Research In Motion (RIM), the mobile manufacturing giant that manufactures Blackberry is not spending enough on its security measures. Crackberry, an online site unofficially meant for Blackberry users (and abusers) has recently leaked the photos of the BlackBerry Curve Touch which will come without a physical keyboard! Till date, RIM has launched only one touch-screen phone, the Blackberry Storm which was launched in 2008. Storm can not be called a great success. Most of the BlackBerry users & lovers find the classical look which comes up with a QWERTY keypad interesting.

[IMG]BlackBerry Apollo and Sedona are expected to be the upcoming phones launched by RIM, both non-touch screen, in the early 2011. So CurveTouch will be launched later and is stated to be released in late 2011/early 2012 as the first Curve to lack a keyboard.

(Note that the BlackBerry Curve series of RIM already exists. But all of those handsets have QWERTY keyboard. CurveTouch is the one without keyboard). CrackBerry has written on the site that they managed the images of the phone from Barcelona on 27 Jan, 2011.

They made it clear that RIM has decided not to go with a physical keyboard this time. This complete touch-screen phone, codenamed “Malibu”, is very different from another rumored phone “Apollo” (expected to be out soon) as there is no keypad at all!

The Specifications (proposed) for Curve-Touch are:

[*]Processor: Qualcomm MSM 8655 800MHz CPU
[*]Radio: CDMA - EvDo Rev A
    [*]Display: 3.25" 480x360 HVGA
    [*]Navigation: Trackpad & Nav Keys
    [*]Keypad: Virtual QWERTY
[*]Camera: 5 MP (with HD Video recording)
[*]Memory: 1GB Flash + 512MB RAM, Hot Swap MicroSD slot
    [*]Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
    [*]GPS: Autonomous & A-GPS
[*]Connectivity: NFC, Micro USB, Bluetooth 2.1
    [*]Sensors: Ambient Light Sensor, accelerometer

The BlackBerry has always been a strong supporter of keyboard (typically QWERTY).

But as the other mobile phone giants like Nokia, Samsung are on warheads in the touch-screen category and clearly, the sell of touch-screen mobile phones rising exponentially, RIM is also trying to join the race by making drastic changes in their classic designs. As it still has its range of handsets in the Classic category (which their existing users are happy with), it seems that RIM is trying to draw the attention of the genX that is fascinated by the touch-screen phones. Also, as we can see from the recent advertisements, BlackBerry is trying to change its image from just a corporate phone meant for corporate to a funky phone meant for all kinds of people.

The price of BlackBerry Curve Touch or “Malibu” can’t be predicted as of now, but with powerful processor with high frequency and some advanced technology, I am sure it will be a success.

Yet, we need to wait and watch to see what BlackBerry Curve Touch has in store for the mobile freaks! While “Malibu” is CDMA, it is said that work is in progress to get GSM CurveTouch too!
