AUO Beats Samsung In Revealing The First Quad HD OLED Smartphone Screen
Samsung did announce earlier this year that it's working hard on a Quad-HD or QHD (we're talking of 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution here) AMOLED panel, it'll have to satisfy itself at the second position now that Taiwanese display manufacturer AU Optronics has launched its 5.7-inched QHD display that packs 513 pixels/inch (ppi) - the maximum among all organic panels yet.
QHD is not a new concept - competitors like Oppo, Vivo and LG have all been creating their QHd smartphones, but then they're doing it on conventional LCD panels. AUO is the first company as of now to reveal a QHD AMOLED screen. AMOLED (or active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) score a lot over LCD tech in providing deeper blacks and superlative contrasts.
The company has even unveiled a 5-inch HD720 AMOLED screen with just 0.57mm thickness. And now the makers are planning to develop a 6-inch WQHD panel as well. The specific smartphone models which incorporate these QHD AMOLED displays are not made known yet.
