AOL is on its way of becoming the media powerhouse at least in the west. They've recently acquired popular technology and news blogs like "TechCrunch", '"Engadget", "Huffingtonpost" and as expected, the lay-offs were expected.
A fired AOL employee told Reuters that AOL CEO, Tim Armstrong wrote to employees that AOL would fire about 700 employees in India and about 200 in US. The fired employees may take up jobs with AOL's outsourcing partners (HP & MindTree in India) and continue to work for AOL.
AOL has offered 4 months salary to all the fired employees and also offer added benefits based on individual situation.
