  • Amazon's thinking about shipping the items to a delivery center nearest to your location; even before you actually order it. Amazon's filed a patent that will let the company 'guess' what you are about to order or thinking of buying and be all set to deliver just as soon as it can - through delivery personnels or the delivery drones (Amazon Prime). I think consumerism has started to reach the limits now.

The company has filed a patent with the USPTO that will allow the company to drastically reduce the product transit times.

    What do you think?

If implemented properly then it is a brilliant idea.

The way how this works is if you are a avid viewer of a TV series and have purchased DVD of past seasons then when the newest season arrives on DVD, Amazon will ship the copies to your nearest hub so that it can ship you faster. Same thing applies when you have been buying gadgets from Amazon, when the updated product arrives it does the same thing.

Even if the concerned customer is not interested in buying the product others residing in the area will get the product faster since the product is at the nearest hub.

    * The idea is just a patent, so it may or may not be implemented.

As we already know the competition in e-commerce has increased manifold and after applying all skills and knowledge in reducing cost of product and increase the quality of product in all the possible ways, the only option left with e-tailer giants like Flipcart, Snapdeal, Jabong, Amazon etc.is to reduce the transportation cost i.e reduce cost involved in logistics and supply chain management which has got a vast scope of improvement. Its high time now satisfying customers needs is not the matter of concern, its time to thrill the customer ,its time to reach beyond custumer's expectations. Thus we need to apply techniques like "Just In Time" , concept of zero inventory and this is what amazon is trying to do in simple terms.

    Quite an amusing one!

I was thinking if Flipkart does this (The number one destination for buying books online in India), they can install a printer in their bikes or trucks and print the book from an eBook and give a fresh copy to the customer as soon as he/she places an order. Using this technology, the book will be ready to the consumer faster. Students won’t have to wait to receive their book.

Won't that create problems between the publisher and Flipkart? I am thinking of lawsuits, copyright infringements and what not.

True that. The e-Retailer can only achieve this on mutual agreement with the publishers. One-day delivery could come down to Dominos like 30 minutes delivery. 👀
