Following the official launch of Amazon eCommerce store in India, the company has just announced the arrival of Amazon Fire HD, Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle via the Kindle Store on Amazon.in. The update looks quite exciting because we didn't expect Amazon to expand so rapidly in Indian markets. The Amazon.in store was launched only with the books & TV shows, and the site promises 'mobiles, cameras & more' in the coming soon section.

The prices of the devices are as follows:

Kindle Fire HD, 7" : Rs. 15999
Kindle Fire HD 8.9": Rs. 21,999
Kindle Paperwhite (Wi-Fi Only): Rs. 10,999
Kindle Paperwhite (Wi-Fi + 3G): Rs. 13,999
Kindle 5th Generation: Rs. 5,999

The devices will ship starting June 27 and Amazon is promising a free home delivery across India for a limited period of time. Amazon has confirmed that Redington will be the official distribution partner for the company in India and the Kindle devices will retail at Chroma, Reliance Digital, E-Zon and via Vijay Sales in major Indian cities including Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Bangaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Pune and Chandigadh.

We believe that Amazon's got the pricing of their products right in Indian markets. It'd be really interesting to see how the Indian audiences react to Kindles. Amazon's got biggest competition in India from Flipkart (which recently closed down the digital MP3 store).

We'd love to know from our readers their opinion on the launch of Kindle devices in India. Do you think the 'free PDF' aficionados will pay for the eBooks?

I think folks at Flipkart would certainly be concerned on the arrival of Kindle in India. Note that the Paperwhite & Fire HDs are placed between the Rs. 10k - Rs.16 range; which would make it an ideal choice for high-end gifts (okay, we're no Ambanis, right?). With all their cash, I'm quite sure Amazon will launch some attractive schemes to woo Indian Book Lovers. What do you say?

Update: As expected, Amazon has an offer going on - a free Kindle eBook every day! The offer will end on June 26 just a day before the devices go on sale in India.

    Interesting times ahead, junta!
