Amazon India has finally launched the much awaited electronic gadgets store. The 'Shop By Department' section of the India focused website shows Movies & TV, Mobile & Accessories, Cameras & Photography and Portable Media Player sections. It's just few weeks since Amazon made official entry into India with their own branded domain - #-Link-Snipped-#, starting with books, followed by eBooks & Kindle gadget. The electronics store was much awaited as it now offers a strong competition to established Indian market players like Flipkart, Snapdeal, HomeShop18 and others.
The website has over 20k products listed in the store from over 150 electronics retailers. Amazon's keeping their promise of 'Free Delivery' on all the goods for no minimum order value. The move's supposed to attract customers to try out the delivery of goods the Amazon way. Note that in contrast, Flipkart's requirement is to have an order value of at least Rs. 500 for the free home delivery.
We did a few comparisons on the prices of the hot mobiles and we found the following. Samsung S3 Black sells at a cheaper price, Rs. 26,135 on Amazon as compared to Rs. 27,500 on Flipkart. The Galaxy S4 on the other hand is available on both the stores for Rs. 38,699. On the camera fronts, we didn't notice much difference on the prices; but the sellers are selling DSLRs with bare body and with lenses included for different prices.
Amazon's 'Fulfilled By Amazon' orders allow customers to pay cash on delivery, complete tracking of delivery to the doorstep and free returns pickups. For the limited time, the service is being offered by Amazon free of cost and we'd recommend you to use the facility.
Amazon's entry into the eCommerce party in India is quite late and it began with Amazon launching the Junglee brand. After testing the waters with Junglee, Amazon decided to go gung-ho in Indian markets with their own branded website and launching product categories on by one. With the current pace, we can definitely expect Amazon to launch more products in coming weeks.
This might go off the topic - but we wonder whether Amazon will ever consider Indian version of their web-services. We'll keep following the story.
