A Hybrid Cloud Approach for Secure Authorized Deduplication

Project Abstract / Summary : Data deduplication is one of the important data compression techniques for eliminating duplicate copies of repeating data, and has been widely used in cloud storage to reduce the amount of storage space and save bandwidth. To protect the confidentiality of sensitive data while supporting deduplication the convergent encryption technique has been proposed to encrypt the data before outsourcing.
Security analysis demonstrates that our scheme is secure in terms of the definitions specified in the proposed security model. As a proof of this concept, we implement a prototype of our proposed authorized duplicate check scheme and conduct tested experiments using our prototype. We show that our proposed authorized duplicate check scheme incurs minimal overhead compared to normal operations.
Deduplication can takes place at either the file level or at the block level. For the file level deduplication, it eliminates duplicate copies of the same file. Deduplication can also takes place at the block level, which eliminates duplicate blocks of data that occur in non identical files.
After the proof, subsequent users with the same file will be provided a pointer from the server without needing to upload the same file. A user can download the encrypted file with the pointer from the server, which can only be decrypted by the corresponding data owners with their convergent keys. Convergent encryption allows the cloud to perform deduplication on the cipher texts and the proof of ownership prevents the unauthorized user to access the file.
We present an advance scheme to support stronger security by encrypting the file with differential privilege keys. In this way the users without corresponding privileges cannot perform the duplicate check.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : Cloud computing provides seemingly unlimited "virtualized" resources to the user as services across the whole internet, while hiding platform and implementation details. But critical challenges of cloud storage services are the management of ever-increasing volume of data and about security.
So, i chose to work on this project to come up with these challenges as deduplication has been well-known technique and has attracted more and more attention recently and also we can provide security by performing encryption using differential privilege keys. It will provide more flexibility and infinite storage of data and it will be cost proficient and back up and recovery will be done easily. It will provide differential authorization and authorized duplicate check.

Project Highlights : Organizations stores and retrieves data using the cloud. The main goal of any organization is to reduce the duplicate data and to maintain the data confidentiality. But cloud computing has two main issues i.e data redundancy and security.
This project is all about to over come these issues which is very helpful in maintaining data confidentiality in any organization and successful implementation will be done.
