Xiaomi Redmi Y1 With 16MP Front Camera & Snapdragon 435 Launched, Prices Start At Rs. 8999

Xiaomi has climbed to the second position among smartphone manufacturers in the largest smartphone market that is India. The Chinese company wants an even bigger share of the market. Its target is to obliterate the competition from offline specific brands like Oppo and Vivo. Now brands like Oppo and Vivo have managed to capture offline sales with their camera centric smartphones. Oppo and Vivo which are the brands of parent company BBK Electronics have been enticing customers with high resolution selfie cameras but leaving out high performance hardware. Until now Xiaomi has settled for better performance but provided lacklustre cameras. So in order to win selfie obsessed consumers Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 in India.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is a part of the Y Series smartphone. The Y Series was a very well kept secret as no leaks surfaced whatsoever regarding this. This was the first time Xiaomi launched a smartphone in India first and why wouldn’t it? After China, India is the second largest market for XIaomi and the brand which topped smartphone sales during the festive season wants to keep the momentum going. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 wants to deliver the best selfie ever and that is why it has stuck a 16MP f/2.0 aperature, 76.4 degree wide angle lens with selfie light. The selfie camera promises to enhance natural beauty and bring out your eyes with the Beautify 3.0. It comes with the regular selfie features like real-time filters, selfie countdown and face recognition. On the rear you have a 13MP camera with LED flash.

Unlike Oppo and Vivo which put good cameras and less than average performing hardware, Xiaomi has kept up its performance mantra by adding Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chipset that was found on its Redmi 4 smartphone. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will be sold in two variants, one with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory and another one with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal memory. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 has a 5.5inch HD resolution display that is encased in Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is powered by 3080mAh battery. The thing that we particularly liked about the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is that they have finally addressed a tiny yet significant problem. You see most Xiaomi smartphones come with a hybrid SIM slot where you can either use one SIM one SD card or two SIMs. This proved to be a hassle for the customer who wanted options with connectivity as well as storage. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 solves this problem with a 2in1 hybrid tray which has two nano SIM slots and a microSD card slot.

Xiaomi has added all the connectivity options that you may need. You have Wi-Fi, microUSB and Bluetooth. The sensor list is expansive with gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity, ambient light, electronic compass and hall sensor. You get an IR blaster and a fingerprint sensor as well. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 comes with MIUI 8 and will be upgraded to MIUI 9 by the middle of November.The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will be sold in Gold and Dark Grey colour variants. The 3GB + 32GB variant will cost Rs. 8,999 and the 4GB + 32GB variant will cost Rs. 10,999. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will go on sale on the Mi website as well as Amazon India from November 8th at 12noon.
