Written tests for lateral recruitment at Infosys

Infosys is getting a revamp under the leadership of Narayana Murthy, who's joined back to make sure that the company continues on its growth path. As part of the changes Mr. Murthy is bringing to Infy; all the lateral recruitment candidates (even the senior positions) will have to undergo written tests. Infosys is taking this step because they want to make sure that the company hires only the top talent.

The written tests for lateral recruits is a double-edged sword. While it 'may' ensure that Infy gets top quality talent; it may also repeal a lot of talent from joining Infosys.

Typically lateral recruitments are done on the basis of technical and HR interviews and no written tests are involved. But Infosys could be one of the few companies that require candidates to take written tests. I wonder how many of the senior staff would be willing to 'prove themselves' in written tests.

I wish to seek opinion from all engineers - are you okay writing a tests before you're recruited as a team lead? Or would you prefered being judged only on the basis of your Technical Knowledge, tested in personal interview?
