Working with Dimensional Tolerances makes an ME's life easier

Dimensional tolerances can play havoc in the working life of a mechanical enginner. Over specification leads to delay in production and increase in cost. Poor specification can lead to costly rejects and customer complaints. The basics of dimensional tolerances are quite simple. However, this is often overlooked even in established industries leading to major problems.
When a large number of parts are assembled, while each may be within tolerance, the assembly as a whole can (and quite often does) fail.
