Word Lens Translator App For Android Is Now Here

Word Lens Translator is one of the top apps in iTunes no doubt. But for those who are not familiar with the app, let me give a quick introduction. It is an app that uses your phone’s camera to view printed words and translates them into another language you choose in real time. Obviously, this will be of so much help for those who take business or holiday trips to another country. When you encounter a street sign or a menu card all that you will have to do is point your camera towards it and watch the translation happen real-time. It is that easy.

The tough part till now was that it was available only to the users of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch with camera, and required iOS 4.0 or later. The latest news is that a version of the same app is available to the android users too. Initially the app was launched on iOS with only English/Spanish languages. Now, Quest Visual, the app’s developer, has now added Italian/English and French/English language pairs. All of these language pairs will be available on both iOS and Android platforms.

It uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to analyze and match it with a word and perform the translation. Since it uses an included dictionary, it does not require an internet connection. The other features the app offers are a zoom feature, to focus on the required part alone and a flashlight feature to light up the words if required. Now you can take a trip to Italy, Spain or France and still find your way through the streets.
