Wooden Log Splitter
Project Abstract / Summary : Its a Machine for splitting the wooden logs into two pieces at a time, the logs are required to split so it can be burn easily and effectively. The splitted logs are are required wherever wood is used as a fuel, such as boilers and etc.
The Machine consists of a conical tool having helical threads on it which is driven by an electric drive.
The conical tool is having a sharp point at start and then followed by helical threading. As the wooden log is feed across the point of the conical tool the initial threads get engaged and the log is splitted into 2 parts as a wedge is introduced between the log due to the conical shape of tool. As the number of engaged threads goes on increasing the wedge goes on increasing and finally the log gets splitted in 2 parts. Due to the helical RH threading provided there is no manual feed required to be applied on the wooden-log besides the small feed given for initial engagement of threads.
As it does not completely cuts the Wooden-log from start to end done by blade cutters the effort and time required to split the wooden-log is minimum. Also the wear of tool is very less so the life of tool is also long. And there is no major maintenance required for the machine except the lubrication of the bearings of transmission shaft on which the tool is mounted.
Why did you choose to work on this project topic : the manual methods used such as spliting by Axe are very risky and harmfull so this m/c can do the work with no risk. This machine can Split the wooden-log with very less effort and time and an unskilled worker can also operate it, also it's very safe to use. It is very useful in applications where time required is a major point of concern
