This silly question popped into my mind just now.

We know that vacuum means space or place that contains no matter.Isn't it?
We use vacuum cleaners to remove all the matter (waste materials) in a messy place.

Then why is it the name vacuum cleaner (almost meaning like cleaning an empty space , but in reality quite opposite)?

I dont know the thoughts in the mind of the person who named it , but I want to know what do our creative CEans feel about it.

Also post any of your silly thoughts like this in this thread.
Lets see how many replies comes for this thread!!!!

Because the machine basically tries to create vacuum to clean up the dust. In order to create vacuum at any place, you've to suck the air out from that place. The machine basically tries to create vacuum at the mouth of the cleaner and that pulls in all the dust. That's why the machine is called so.

You yourself had answered that.. read it again.

You explained Vaccum in simple but correct words.
Vacuum Cleaner is the device that makes the place clean by sucking all the air and dust particles. Right? That's the reason they have named it as Vacuum Cleaner.

Now please do not ask why the place where everyone sits is termed as 'stands', few things in the world has no answers.

The vacuum cleaner is nothing but a centrifugal blower.

it creates vacuum at its inlet and that is used for sucking up all the dirt and dust.
