Why didn't Linux succeed as a desktop OS?
First off, I'm assuming that Linux and all its flavors didn't do as well as they should have done. Everyone agrees that UNIX is a better piece of software and OSes built around it have to be very good & secure.
Linux (ubuntu) is free & secure. It's got stunning visual effects. It's very user friendly and has capability to replace any damn operating system (read Windows) on users' desktop. But yet, we don't see UNIX as a preferred desktop OS.
What do you think are the reasons? Is it the low awareness about the greatness of the Linux OSes or its just the user reluctance to try out a new operating system.
Or there's something else? Spit out your thoughts in this thread! ![]()
