WhatsApp To Enable Video Calling Soon, Beta Version Out For Testing

We all have been in a situation while chatting with people on WhatsApp, when we just want to make things clear with a video call. WhatsApp recently released new beta version for its Android app to developers for feedback and improvement. And guess what! It possesses the much awaited feature - video calling. Yes, you read that right. Video calling feature on WhatsApp is right now under testing and might hit the market soon. This feature will be accessible via tapping the 'Call' button.

On tapping the video call option under the call button, a message saying "Couldn’t place call. Video calling is unavailable at this time" appears. It seems that the design and layout of the video call feature is still unavailable.

Though there's nothing much added yet, you too can try out the new update. Just download the beta update for on your Android device. You may find the update at Google Play's beta testing program, or just click on this link- WhatsApp Messenger 2.16.80 beta (Android 2.1+) APK Download by WhatsApp LLC - APKMirror.

This feature, when activated, will certainly enhance the stance of WhatsApp among its rivals. Users earlier had to switch to Skype, Hangout, Viber or Facebook for video calls. However this feature will ease out the process for users, and help people communicate more efficiently, given the user-base of WhatsApp. According to WhatsApp, 1 Billion users are currently using WhatsApp and it's ranked 8th among top downloads on Android devices. As of now, Skype is superior among all video calling applications, and also business friendly. It may be tough for WhatsApp to acquire that spot any time soon. This also clarifies its recent push for data security and encryption.

WhatsApp recently made a few tweaks in its app, adding documents sharing support, and end-to-end encryption. It is still a mystery, that when the video calling feature is coming to all the devices, as the beta testing update hasn't been released on all platforms, but only on Android. It's still an anticipated question whether it will roll out voice and video call support for group chats. Unless that doesn't happen, WhatsApp cannot envision to surpass Skype.

It will also be worth finding out how well it works on the data compression aspect, as that is a major factor for making video calls more real time and reduce the lag- especially in countries like India - which is one of the largest market for WhatsApp but lacks in fast internet connectivity. Furthermore, there have been rumours that WhatsApp is planning to roll out other features like call-back and voicemail as well. WhatsApp, unlike Slack, isn't yet considered business-friendly. However it has recently announced that it wants to have a share into enterprises and businesses, to help them interact with their customers. It would be worth finding out how the WhatsApp story unfolds- given that Mark Zuckerberg is betting big on the application.
