That Crucial system scanner is an absolute classic. I’ve used it more times than I can count, especially when friends ask me to upgrade their older laptops and I can't be bothered to hunt down the obscure service manual just to check the maximum supported capacity. It saves so much guesswork. I actually ran into a situation recently with a used workstation I bought for a home lab. I needed to verify the memory channels before populating it because I was planning to add a dedicated RAID controller card for a storage array https://serverorbit.com/hba-and-controllers/expansion-module/raid-controller. Since I was going with a software-defined storage setup, I needed as much system RAM as possible to act as a cache, rather than relying solely on the controller's onboard memory. The tool saved me from buying a kit that wouldn't have played nice with the existing sticks. Does anyone else feel like laptop manufacturers are making it increasingly difficult to find these technical specs manually on their support pages, or is it just me?
