What is meaning of does flash with mobile

I heard many times that if you have some problem with your Nokia phone,so it is also suggested that to do Flash with mobile.
I just want to know that how it is done?
Is it possible to flash our Nokia mobile from home?
And how it is possible that to increase speed of mobile after flash?

As per my knowledge they are going to reprogram the OS.

Flash is just like farmat you hdd and then install the whatever version of available OS either lower version or latest version.
Yes, you can do it on home. there are some programs are available for it.You need to get the back up of current firmware in case of any mess and have firmware dump what you install after flashing .
I have Nokia phone but didn't tried flash.
Slowing down of phone generally caused by virus or loads of setting.
When ever I feel my phone is becoming too slow I just backup the phone data and do restore factory setting & then restore my data.It works great.😀. But have to do all settings again.

No extra hardware ..
