What does "Operational" really mean in an OpAmp

Question is self explanatory, need to know what does this operational word mean in Operational Amplifier, and what are advantages of using Operational Amplifier, as other systems can be applied to perform tasks that Op Amp is used for, like summing , integration, etc. of two signals..

Urgent help needed.
Thanks in advance.

Ideal Op-amp: Infinite input impedance, Zero Output impedance, and Infinite gain.
Hence, desired operation can be done with almost negligible loading, and negligible power loss.

And ideal opamp don't exist. So, Sanyam you shouldn't care much about it 😁
Grab : Opamp & Linear Integrated Circuits by Ramakant Gayakwad. Nice book for basics.

    But why this word operational?

The opamp can be used to amplify dc & ac input signals and it was designed to perform mathematical operations such as addition , subtraction, multiplication, differentiation & integration, so it was named as 'operational' amplifier.

And that's what I told, when examiner asked this question, may be he was not satisfied. 😯

Well you should've added that : along with mathematical operations, opamps are also used for ac-dc signal amplification, active filters, oscillators, comparators & regulators.

Operational amplifier is one which can respond differently to inputs based on the external components connected to it

It's operation is not totally dependent on its internal configuration but also depends on other components So the name operational

That is quite right. An op amp has defined precision for operations. Its out put is modified by the operation performed on the input in specified manner.
The word came up to differentiate it from things like audio amplifiers.

the operation means that the various operations for which opam is used these specific operations are as follows addition, substraction, compaision, differentiation integration and many more the normal amplfier just amplifies the input but by opan we can perform many operation on them.
