The Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV in Freising have developed additive enhanced water based lubricants that seem to be better than the mineral oil ones and lots more eco friendly. Oil lubricants will go 'green' with envy once these are commercialised.

Very interesting, I like the fact that it does not mist and is kinder to both environment and human, and the fact that it smells better than ordinary lubricants will be much appreciated by machinists who complain that lubricants emit a very bad odor when they get hot or stale.
