When anyone talks about outsourcing, India's name comes up in mind as an undisputed King in Business Process outsourcing, Offshore Software Development and ITES. Due to new emerging countries in Outsourcing field now a question arises “Will India remain outsourcing King? “

In one of the best IT research magazine Gartner says, “In terms of offshore centers, India remains the undisputed leader, with China and Russia emerging as strong contenders” Gartner identifies the growth in offshore outsourcing to India and other developing countries as one of the most significant shifts in IT in the near term.

But competition in not over yet, another research magazine Forbes report says “similar low-cost technology centers in China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Russia and Pakistan are sprouting up and already competing for a share in outsourcing projects, making it increasingly unlikely that India can retain its "reign" as "the outsourcing king" for long.

The figure of $50 billion software exports by 2008 as predicted by Indian National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is too ambitious and may be difficult to realize. If India fails to meet this target, it may lose its competitive edge.

However, it is too early to speculate in those terms because under the given circumstances there is no threat to India's status in the outsourcing world and for various reasons the West will always prefer India over its rivals. In fact, it can boast of adding more feathers to its crown. What do you think, Will India loose his place in Outsourcing and Offshore Software Development??

Chinese are hard working and lesser in price , its the languagae barrier which is hindering there progress, bit now Chinese have realised this and are working towards thier English skills. they had the people literated in Basic English skills for Bejing Olympics so when it comes to business they would nto love to be second.

Not to forget Srilanka . I am not sure of Pakistan though.
Fiji, Philipines are already in race with INDIA .
As always said, reachign the top is not important, but the effort put in to reatin the position is!!

As of now, there's no argument that India is at the top. But given that we have reached the top, now, what's important is maintaining the position.

And with the protectionist policies that are likely to be followed by the US, it may not be a surprise if the total outsourcing comes down.

In that case, competition will be even more severe and India would do better only by attract outsourcing organizations by offering better services than others..

durga has made an excellent point. I think India was considered as the top outsourcing country in the past 5 to 10 years because of its massive skilled-human resources reserve. With majority of graduates opting for technical frields like engineering and medicine, the value of our talent pool is higher.

However, countries like Malaysia, Philippines and China are learning from this and soon enough there will be a global shift in outsourcing towards countries who can provide skilled and cheap human resources.

India’s BPO industry has evolved and matured to present higher-end services that require judgment-based analysis and domain expertise, rather than function-specific, rules-based performance parameters alone. As service providers strive to offer end-to-end services, we see BPO falling into different segments. At one end of the spectrum is the traditional rules-based transactional outsourcing; while at the other end is judgment-based transaction processing and full-service business process outsourcing.
India has won its spurs as the world’s outsourcing destination of choice. Currently the country has a commanding share of the global outsourcing market.

India is undoubtedly the most favored IT/BPO destination of the world. This raises the question why most of the big MNCs are interested in outsourcing their operations to BPOs in India. The answer is very simple- India is home to large and skilled human resources. India has inherent strengths, which have made it a major success as an outsourcing destination. India produces the largest number of graduates in the world. The name of India has become synonymous with that of BPOs and IT industry hence the name BPO India.

Besides being technically sound, the work force is proficient in English and work at lower wages in comparison to other developed countries of the world. India also has a distinct advantage of being in a different time zone that gives it flexibility in working hours. All these factors make the Indian BPOs more efficient and cost effective. In order to meet the growing international demand for lucrative, customer-interaction centers, many organizations worldwide are looking to BPO India.
