VLC Beta For Android Arrives On Google Play

The Beta version of popular media player, VLC, has finally arrived for the Android platform. The VideoLAN team has underlined the fact that this version is aimed at power users and hackers and lacks stability. There is still a lot of work left to be done and the final version is expected to be better in performance and features than the beta release.

This version of VLC is compatible with only devices running an ARMv7 CPU that will support NEON. Support for other devices will follow. Basic functionalities are provided by the Beta version like local video and audio files and network streams playback, which is common feature in the desktop version of VLC.

The Beta version works on the latest Jelly Bean version as well. Hardware acceleration isn't enabled by default and you may have to tinker around in "Preferences" before you enjoy a smooth, stutter-free video. The presence of faint on-screen buttons with full-screen play is another let down.

The Play Store description informs the user that some trouble is due with audio with a promise of delivering a better UI and improved performance in near future. For enthusiasts, you can give the VLC Beta a try on#-Link-Snipped-# but be forewarned of the limitations.
