Using Heat To Store Data Is Faster Than Magnetic Recording

Hard drive storage space is increasing by the day and so is the need for them to be faster enough to consume less time in storing and accessing data. Now an international team of researchers have made a breakthrough in storage technology which could lead to storage of data way faster than today's magnetic recording technology.

The revolutionary breakthrough was the result of research involving scientists from various countries including Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Russia, Ukraine and Switzerland. The research was led by the Department of Physics at Magnetic recording - News and events, University of York, UK. The researchers only used heat to record data on the storage medium instead of the strong magnetic field which is required in current hard drive storing technology.

The group of scientists have now busted one of the myths where it was known that heat destroys the magnetic property. Not only that, they even demonstrated the technology where heat was used as a stimulus for storing information which led to transfer of data at speeds of terabytes per second, which is about hundred times faster than the technology we use today.

Being one of the energy saving technique, this new revolution in storage technology could alter the way we use our current hard drives and lead to larger and faster storage and access times in a more compact form.
