Ultrasonic Spectacles, Waist-Belt and Footwear for Visually Impaired People

Project Abstract / Summary : The project mainly focus to develop a electronic travel aid for visually impaired people. Our device work with two sensors : Ultrasonic sensors ( for object detection ) and Light detecting sensor ( for object material determination ) controlled by ARM 7 processor. The output is then feed to a voice chip which gives a pre-recorded voice alert to the subject (people) through a hear phone.
The advantage of the device is that the subject not only gets alerted of the obstacle in front but also the material of the obstacle is conveyed to the subject. The voice chip used here has flash memory and the pre-recorded message can be of subject's understandable language. The device perform three level of detection including ground level which is not in most of the present electronic travel aid.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : According to the World Health Organization, there are 289 million visually impaired people in the world. Though technology has made man's life so sophisticated to live , still with these advancements the only part of man's body that cant be replaced is Eye. It can be replaced only with another eye. So, we planned to develop a electronic travel aid for blind people in there own language.
