UIDAI "Aadhaar" Project Relies On 2K Sq.Ft. Secure Data Center In Bangaluru

The #-Link-Snipped-#aka Unique Identification Authority Of India is an Indian Government initiative that runs a very ambitious project named "Aadhaar". The project aims to provide unique identification number comprising of 12 digits to all the citizens of India. This number will serve as a recognized proof of identity & address pan India. The project has received lot of criticism but continues to sail smoothly under the able leadership of former CEO of Indian IT Services Giant "Infosys", Mr. Nandan Nilekani. #-Link-Snipped-# got some information about the Data Center that's being used for this ambitious project.

What makes that UIDAI data center interesting? Well it's home to the world's largest biometric identification system. Aadhaar chief Nilekani says that the datacenter is located "somewhere in Whitefield suburbs". IE reports that this 2000 sqft. datacenter is located inside a nondescript building somewhere in East Bangalore. It stacks hundreds of servers racks and the complete area is physically & digitally secured. The building is without a sign & no visitors are permitted within the facility.

Maintaining the data center is going to be a huge challenge for the UIDAI authorities. They can never never have an excuse for downtime or errors - because that'd directly or indirectly affect 180 million citizens (and growing!) who've registered for Aadhar Card so far.
