Ubuntu One’s 5GB Storage Space Upgrade- An Attempt To Keep The Competition Alive

Just when Ubuntu One reached the 1 million user’s mark in may, Ubuntu has now announced that the memory storage space for the Ubuntu users has been increased from 2GB to 5GB.

It is a cloud synchronization device offered to the users along with Ubuntu for syncing contacts, data, and documents. It not only faces tough competition from Drop box, but also from Windows skydrive, iCloud from Mac. So in an attempt to move away from the crowd and show itself different from DropBox, Ubuntu One has given the users a bonus storage space of 3GB making the total usable space for a user as 5GB and it has been now named as “Ubuntu One Freeâ€. That is a huge increment to the users and may turn the tide in Ubuntu One’s favors. We have to wait and see if this move by Ubuntu will propel them ahead of DropBox and will the users switch to Ubuntu One. If required more storage can be got in chunks of 20GB costing $2.99/month or $29.99/year.
One will have to wait and see what DropBox and other competitors might bring in to counter this move by Ubuntu.
Ubuntu has also changed its current mobile plan to Music streaming for Android and iPhone. This not free though. It will include 20GB or a price of $3.99/month. Another important announcement they made was that the app developer program has been made public. They look forward to harness the pool of talents that has been scattered across the globe to make Ubuntu better.
