Twitter Follows Google's Path Into Censoring Tweets

"Tweets still must flow" is the #-Link-Snipped-# which announced the censorship campaign from Twitter yesterday. As we have known Twitter to be an instrument of free speech, the company seeking to expand its branches in various other countries, is now going to censor your tweets. Twitter previously had the right to remove anyone's tweet which made the tweet unavailable to the world, but now Twitter will not remove the tweet entirely, instead will show up a notice indicating that the tweet has been censored and will be accessible to specific viewers only.

You can find notices related to the removal requests which twitter receives at #-Link-Snipped-#. The company is venturing into new countries to expand its audience base from 100 million to 1 billion active users. This doesn't come that easy, which means Twitter has to surrender to the laws of those countries. Which also means like Google, Twitter is reluctant to enter China where it is currently blocked. China has strict guidelines when it comes to internet content sharing and those guidelines will affect the core values of the company.

The official blog post clearly gives an idea of the company's core values in respecting and defending everyone's voice. This is the only reason Twitter has chosen to censor the tweets instead of entirely blocking it. Twitter has played significant role in various movements and uprising in the world, most notable was the anti-government protest in Egypt which led to the fall of the government about a year ago. You can now search with #twitter to find how people are reacting to the new move by the company.
