Toyota To Install Emergency-Response Technology In Upcoming Models

Toyota motor corp. is again back in action continuing its "Kaizen" or constant improvement policy. The auto giant is now planning to add some never seen before features which will make car driving even safer. The car maker has added some technologies like Emergency-Response Technology which will detect driver's health condition from his grip on the steering wheel and also if there is any obstacle on road to prevent any crash.

According to the reports, the car maker is using millimeter wave radar system to be incorporated in the new monitoring device in its car. The system will also contain a constantly monitoring camera to locate the objects in the driving path and regulate automobile's motion.

In the demonstration at company's Higashi Fuji technical center, the officials asked drivers to drive an automobile fitted with Emergency Response Technology at a constant speed of 40 kilometers per hour. When the driver drove the car at constant speed, upon sensing a human mannequin (purposefully kept on road) an audible alarm started inside the car alerting him of a pedestrian in path. However, when there was no change in the speed of car, the system took controls in its own hands and stopped the car a few meters before mannequin. This was not done suddenly; the actions of the system were well coordinated. When the car was about to stop, the seat belt automatically tightened and brakes were applied on their own, there by stopping the vehicle with a little screech.

Well this is not the only thing that Toyota is thinking about. As mentioned earlier, it is planning to equip the steering wheels with optical and cardiovascular sensors which will monitor the driver's physical conditions constantly. If it finds that there is any possibility of an untoward incident, it will also issue a warning to him, advising him to see a doctor. It would also be a good idea that a person is able to monitor his health conditions on a daily basis while driving, which will make him aware of his health. This innovation, however being a little different than that of normal automobile sector, would perhaps require the approval of health ministry.

The Higashi Fuji technical facility is continuously trying to simulate real life conditions in an artificial environment, giving you a feel of real time driving. The company has still not made any announcement as in which model will these safety measures will be installed. Toyota however indicated that the system will soon be production ready and will be rolling out soon. The additional features will add to the already spectacular customer friendliness of the automaker.
