to test 555timer ic

hi guys'
can we test a 555 timer ic using cro,probes and function generator?
if so ,how?

    Ofcourse you can....since testing a timer will only involve testing the time period of the square wave signal, whatever values of R & C you'll use will decide the period of the ON & OFF pulse. T=R*C is the formula. Also 555 timer has 50% duty cycle so the square wave will be symmetrical. The o/p oin of the Ic has to be connected to the CRO using probes, and you should be able to view the square wave.You can use a standard 1khz signal as i/p.
