Threat To Life: Ozone Layer Depletion
News: Four new gases are discovered which cause Ozone layer depletion.
Scientists at the University of Angelia claim to discover four new man-made gases which are contributing to depletion of Ozone layer. The gases that mostly result to stratospheric ozone depletion are seven types of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and six types of hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). Three new CFCs and one HCFC is detected to cause ozone layer depletion. The scientists have analyzed air samples at Tasmania from 1978 to 2012 and snow samples from Greenland in 2008 to support their research.
Scientists believe that all of four compounds started to emerge in atmosphere in 1960s. Two of the compounds accumulate in the atmosphere. Scientists also believe that, before 2012 total emission of all the compounds together weigh about 74,000 tonnes. Though the sources of these hazardous gases are not yet known, it is our duty to reduce the use of appliances which are harmful for our environment and our planet.
Though man is making Earth a better place to live, is he at the same time making life difficult to exist? We are taking giant leaps in terms of development, but will it be of any use when existence of life is difficult? In a nutshell, we donât want development, we want sustainable development.
