Theiss, a construction, mining and services contractor, has just won a AU$60million (£38.6million) tunneling contract to construct a tunnel to connect two gas reserves which are offshore to the plant on land. It will be a 1.2km long passing under the ocean connecting two offshore gas reserves to the Chevronâs Greenfield Liquefied Natural Gas plant in Western Australia.
The microtunnel will be 2.5m in diameter and can have 1.1m diameter pipeline to deliver gas from the Wheatstone to the lago reserves. Tunnel Boring Machines will be employed to excavate the tunnels and the pipe jacking method is used to push the pipes after the Tunnel Boring Machines.

Managing director Bruce Munro #-Link-Snipped-#  âThiess already has a major role with Chevron in delivering its Gorgon LNG project and weâre delighted to be increasing our participation in the LNG industry.â He further added, âThis is an exciting project for Western Australia and Thiess is committed to engage local suppliers and subcontractors which will in turn boost local employment and training opportunities.â
The engineering and procurement works will commence immediately and the construction works would begin in 2013.
