Sir / Madam,
My questions is,

A test has 50 questions. A student scores 1 mark for a correct answer, -1/3 for a wrong answer, and –1/6 for not attempting a question. If the net score of a student is 32, the number of questions answered wrongly by that student cannot be less than

Advance Thanks,

    The answer should be 10.

Since, if we consider student to answer 36 questions correctly, then there would be 14 questions left.

Out of which 10 answered incorrectly and 4 left.

    which adds up to 10*1/3 + 4*1/6 = 4.

    Thus he scored 36-4 = 32 marks.

    Suppose
no of correct answers = x
no of wrong answers = y
no of unattempted questions = z
Therefore we will have 2 equations after evaluating it, that are
    x + y + z = 50 ----------(1)
    (x - y*1/3 - z*1/6 =32 ) => 6x -2y - z = 192 --------------(2)
    now add both of them
    we will get
    7x - y = 242 or 7x - 242 = y -----------(3)
we know that x & y must be positive integers including 0
    least possible no. of y = 3 for y to be +ve where x = 35 (7*35 - 242 = 3 )

    so answer (c) 3
