The New Chromebook "Daisy" Might Feature ARM Chips

If rumors are to be believed, the new chromebook named Daisy might be powered by an ARM chip. However,  there are good chances that it could be a chrome box as it also feature an Ethernet port which is generally missing in the case of chrome books.  Google cleared it long ago that Chromium OS won’t be coming with tablets or smartphones but they never said anything about ARM chips.

The issues trackers at the Chromium OS project have shown that developers are working on making Chrome OS compatible with ARM processor. The name of a particular chip Samsung Exynos 5250 has also come up. The Exynos 5250 chip is based on Cortex A15 architecture. This 32 nm chip is supposed to run at 2 GHz and will use less power than Cortex A9 chips. It can process 14 billion instructions per second with four time better 3D graphics performance and double memory bandwidth. The chip supports 2560*1600 (WQXGA) pixels of resolution. These chips will be a lot more power efficient than Intel Atom processor, which is used currently in chrome books. One interesting thing about the new chrome book is Ethernet port. Well, chrome books released till now didn’t have any port for Ethernet, you either need Wi-Fi connection or 3G enabled SIM to connect to the internet.

As there is no much information available about the device so it’s hard to say if it’s a Chromebook or Chrome box. Things will be clearer in few weeks. There are also some other Chrome projects based on x86 architecture codenamed “Slumpy”, “Stumpy” and “Newton”.
