San Francisco police have stepped in to assist Apple in the search for their latest iPhone prototype that went missing in a tequila bar in San Francisco's Mission District in July, as reported in technology news site CNET reported this week.

[IMG]Using GPS technology the device was tracked to a San Francisco house in the Bernal Heights area, belonging to Mr. Sergio Calderon. His house was searched by six men in plainclothes who claimed to be from the San Francisco Police Department. Following the house search, which proved to be a failure, they offered Sergio $300 for the device and also promised not to press charges if it was returned.

The search party consisted of four police officers and two Apple employees visited the home, the San Francisco police said in a statement distributed to news outlets.

This statement reveled the hunted object was the iPhone5 as the document was titled the same, however there was no other explicit indication.

Sergio claims to not have the device, but has claimed to have frequented the bar. This entire episode took place way back in July. There is a good possibility somebody out there is enjoying way before its scheduled launch in September.  An equally high possibility of publicity stunt does exist, but it really does not speak highly of Apple to lose a prototype in a tequila bar.
