Symmetricom SA.45s CSAC Is Portable Atomic Clock

Symmetricom’s QUANTUM™ is the family of atomic oscillators and SA.45 CSAC is the latest addition to the family. This portable device provides the stability, accuracy and reliability of atomic clock and finds application in setups that require precise timekeeping and synchronization. It measures only 16 cc in total volume, 35 grams in weight and consumes only 115 mW power. The company claims that it's two folds more energy efficient than the quartz-based solutions currently available.

Typically, Atomic clocks, on account of their precision are used to keep the world time. They are also known as atomic oscillators. They work on the principle that when the atoms of elements such as Hydrogen, Rubidium or Cesium are excited to a certain level of resonance, they begin emitting radiation of precise frequency. The oscillators synchronized to this frequency are very accurate and reliable; many times more than those that work on crystal based technology. Symmetricom has mastered this technology and developed this ultra portable atomic oscillator while making it even more environment friendly.

These oscillators are so small in size that they can be directly embedded on circuit boards. Looking at the technological advancements, it won't be to far where our phones and wrist watches will have these atomic clocks so that you will never miss a micro-second.
