Super VOOC Flash Charge From Oppo Charges A Smartphone Completely In 15 Minutes

At the Mobile World Congress Oppo debuted their latest battery and charging technology that aims to reduce charging times by a huge margin. Oppo calls its new technology Super VOOC Flash Charge that can charge a standard 2500mAh battery in a smartphone completely on 15 minutes. The Super VOOC Flash Charge also claims to offer 45% charge in just 5 minutes. Oppo has made this possible by using low-voltage pulse-charge system along with its customised battery. It’s not the first time that Oppo has done this; they have implemented the VOOC Flash Charge on the Find 7 smartphone back in 2014. Noticing the success of Find 7 and increasing competition from Qualcomm and MediaTek who have been developing their own quick charge solutions, Oppo had to revamp their efforts and develop the Super VOOC Flash Charge.

Super VOOC Flash Charge which is still in the prototyping stage relies on an intelligent MCU chip (flash core) in the adapter to achieve voltage open-loop and multi-stage, constant-current charging. Oppo has ensured that the charging remains at the standard 5V which is consistent with modern smartphones. This way the voltage is transmitted directly to the battery without the use of any converter. By avoiding any converter the charging efficiency increases to 97%. When you avoid a converter, you also do away with the heat. Oppo claims that conventional quick charge technologies rely on the voltage converter to decrease voltage before power is supplied to the battery, this conversion process gives off heat which is wastage of energy.

If you are impatient enough and cannot avoid your smartphone for a minute then Oppo has good news. Oppo says that you can use your smartphone safely when it is charging. Normally, other fast charging technologies revert to standard charging speed when your use your smartphone but VOOC continues fast charging your smartphone even if you are using it while charging. If you are worried about safety, Oppo assures that the VOOC Flash Charge adapter, cable and connector have all been built using military-grade materials. The Super VOOC Flash Charge supports Micro-USB and the latest USB Type-C. The only bad news here is that this technology isn’t backward compatible which means you cannot use it in your existing smartphone and you have to wait for Oppo to bring out their new smartphone sometime in the future.
