Sony SmartEyeGlass PreOrder Begins - Will It Be Better Than Google Glass?
A few weeks ago, Google announced that they have stopped the sale of Google Glasses. With their competition eliminated, Sony has taken the benefit of this opportunity and have announced that their new smart glasses called Sony SmartEyeGlass, are now being made available for pre-order and will soon hit the markets. Last year in December, Sony had come up with a Convert Regular Glasses Into Smart Glasses Using Sony's Detachable Module that could convert regular glasses to smartglasses but now it has entered the smartglasses market itself.
Just like Google Glasses, Sonyâs SED-E1 shows all the information on the wearerâs field of view. If they are compatible with your phone i.e. if your phone has Android 4.4 or above, this information can be superimposed on the screens of your phone as well. The lenses are only 3 mm thick. They have a resolution of 419x138 pixels and have a monochrome green display. The lenses come with 3 MP CMOS image sensor, accelerometer, brightness sensor, electronic compass and gyroscope.
Despite, all the features, here is the problem with the device. It will come with a separate circular controller that contains the battery of the device, the speaker, the microphone, the GPS and the NFC. This separate controller is actually wired. This means that you will have to carry the wired attachment all times with the glasses either in your hands or in your pockets. Also, the estimated battery life of the device is pretty less. On continuous usage, the glasses will last for just 150 minutes. Plus, the display on the glasses is only in bright green colour, unlike that of Google glass which offered full colour display.
Also, Sony has decided to release the #-Link-Snipped-# of the SmartEyeGlass. The developer edition contains the SDK which will allow developers make apps for the glasses. The pre-order for the glasses and developer edition have already begun in UK and Germany where they will cost £540 and â¬670 respectively. The glasses will be released in eight more countries viz. Japan, U.S., France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands and Sweden by the month of March.
