Sony Launches 4K Products And Services At IFA 2013

Sony’s IFA presence might have been overshadowed by its flagship Sony Xperia Z1 - The Waterproof Flagship With 20MP Exmor RS Sensor And BIONZ Processing Engine and VAIO additions; we just cannot ignore other releases from the Korean electronics giant. In this article we shall take a fleeting look at Sony’s lineup of 4K products and services. We shall begin with its 4K consumer camcorder FDR-AX1E.

4K has already arrived for consumers in form of Acer Liquid S2 has 4K Video Recording. Won't Play Them @ Full Resolution., but Sony knows that people would not be satisfied if they do not get the professional touch. So it has come up with the new FDR-AX1E that has a Sony’s G-Lens with 20x optical zoom and SteadyShot. The camcorder captures true 4K resolution (3840x2160) images and thanks to its powerful processor finalises the 50fps stream in real-time. The FDR-AX1E has one innovation which has managed to capture our attention, XAVC S format recording. The XAVC S format uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Long GOP for video and Linear PCM for audio compression. This format makes sure that you can you get 4K quality in less storage. For example, Sony states that using this format you can store up to two hours of video on a 64GB XQD memory card. Users will be directly able to see the captured video on their 4K TVs thanks to its HDMI connectivity that complies with the HDMI 2.0 : 18 Gbps, 60 fps 4K & 32 channel audio & backward compatability. The product will come with extra goodies like Vegas Pro 12 Edit software and a 32GB XQD media from autumn 2013 in European Markets.

Now if TVs could provide 4K why would projectors stay behind? After the January launch of the company’s first 4K projector, Sony’s VPL-VW500ES offers the highest 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution with its native 4K SXRD panels. The projector has up-scaling feature called as Reality Creation that can convert the 1080p content from Blu-Ray discs to 4K and it also works for 3D upscaling as well. The projector offers 1,700 ANSI-lumen brightness and a 200,000:1 contrast ratio and uses the BRAVIA TRILUMINOS display technology for excellent colour reproduction.

Sony Launches World's First 4K Ultra HD Video Download Service and Expands 4K Ultra HD TV Line

When Sony released its 4K video player, one obviously hoped for a 4K video rental store and since Sony is an entertainment giant it delivered the world’s first 4K video store very easily. The video store will offer 70 movies and TV shows at 4K resolution. All rentals will have a 24 hour viewing window and you have to shell out $7.99 for a movie and $3.99 for a TV episode. Buying a 4K movie will set you back by $29.99 but as an incentive Sony is offering free UltraViolet digital copies for selected titles. But there is one trouble that bugs us, the 4K player only works on Sony 4K TVs and if you have bought something else, well tough luck.
