Sony Expands Its Noise Cancelling Headphones Range With Four New Products

Japanese electronics giant Sony has made its biggest foray into the noise cancelling headphones market in India with four new launches. The WI-1000X, WH-1000XM2, WF-1000X and WH-H900N were launched today and have been priced at Rs 21,990, Rs 29,990, Rs 14,990 and Rs 18,990 respectively. Apart from noise cancelling, they come loaded with additional features, some of which are being claimed to be world’s first in headphones.

Sony claims that they have progressed much deeper in adding smart features and this is evident from their products. The new premium noise cancelling headphones have "Adaptive Sound Control" which adjusts to the activity one does and gives a personalized performance by connecting to "Sony Headphone Connect" app. There is also the Quick Attention mode which allows one to decrease the volume instantly to converse, skip over tracks or to get connected with Google Assistant or Siri by just placing one hand on the housing.

The most intriguing feature which is also touted as a world first is "Atmospheric Pressure Optimizing Control" which will analyze the atmospheric pressure at an altitude to optimise the noise canceling performance. Finally we have the "Sound Position Control" which allows the music to come only from a chosen direction. These features are exclusively present for WH-1000XM2 and WI-1000X models.

At the heart of every noise canceling headphone is the active noise cancellation technique, where an anti-noise signal is generated to nullify an incoming noise signal. This technique has proved to be far better than the passive noise cancellation headphones, where physical materials are used to shield from the outside environment. Most products currently in market use both techniques for delivering optimum performance.

These new series of headphones will be available at all Sony centers from December.
