Sony Announces Future Lab Program & Project ‘N’ Audio Device
While other electronics manufacturers try their best to keep the details of their upcoming projects under wraps, Sony Corporation has decided to go another way. The company today announced a new research and development initiative named as âFuture Lab Programâ where it will not only give out the details of products under development but also ask people their opinions on the same. The company calls it an open creative environment. The company shall develop prototypes of their upcoming product and during each phase of its development ask feedback from the users. Once the prototype is complete, it will ship it out to selected users to test out real world usage and refine the product in the process.
As you can see above, the logo for the concept program is based on an âFâ and âLâ and in the middle it says âNâ. The letter will change depending on the project code name. The N stands for Sonyâs new project about a new audio device. The project âNâ is a concept prototype audio equipment that wonât plug into your ear but shall still allow you to receive audio from a mobile device such as a smartphone. The conceived gadget shall also be operable hands-free. Our best guess here is that Sony will be using bone-conduction audio that was first seen on the now defunct Google Glass Explorer Edition Hints At Bone-Conduction Audio. The device will also be a two-way communication system to be used with your smartphone as explained in this short video below.
The Project N in its concept prototype stage will be shown off at the showcased at the SXSW Interactive Festival, beginning Saturday, March 12th in Austin, Texas, USA. The company will also be showcasing other concept items at the festival.
