WATER POWERED CLOCK



No batteries at home to run the clock in time of emergency? Need to know the time urgently? Here is the solution to your problem. The clocks powered by water. Once you pour water at the designated place, the clock starts working within a few seconds until the water dries out. If you place some flowers in the water it will work as an alarm clock. Now isn’t this enthralling? The first ever water clock used is dated back in 1500 B.C. Later it was used by the Roman and Greek engineers between 100B.C to 150 A.D on a wide scale.
Further more the Chinese engineers put forth their own designs by A.D 1088. these clocks were as tall as 30 feet.
Now, having known this, let us get familiar with the working of this clock:

1. Water is not the source of power to these watches.
2. The difference in the electrode potential between the anode and the cathode produces electricity.
3. These anode and cathode are inserted into water (or potato).
4. This results in the ionization of the electrolyte and electrons are set free.
5. Metals such as copper and zinc are used for electrodes.
6. It appears a bit different but it is just like a battery.
7. The clock anyway draws a very little amount of electrons released in the water.
8. Thus even a glass full of water can drive the clock for a few months.
9. The function is similar to that of a simple galvanic cell.

Thus the clock doesn’t particularly use water but some reactive electrodes which make the provision to power the battery. The internal converter simply extracts electrons from water molecules and provides a steady stream of electrical current acting as a fuel cell to generate power to the clock.
And guess what? This clock is available in wide ranges of price starting from $3 to $25. Generally alarm clocks are a bit costlier.
