Francesco Colarossi, Giovanna Saracino and Luisa Saracino - the three talented engineers/designers from Italy have re-imagined the bridge design to make it more eco-friendly and also super-useful. The trio have taken the existing concept of solar-roadeways to next step by adding wind turbines beneath the bridge. Their calculations say that such a bridge would generate enough power for 15000 homes. They have also included "green promenade" that would run alongside the road, which they suggest could be used to grow fruits and vegetables that'd then be sold to folks driving by. The solar wind bridge won second place in the Solar Park Works – Solar Highway competition, which called for contestants to imagine modernized sections of an elevated highway that runs between Bagnera and Scilla in Italy.
