Project Abstract / Summary : According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there may be as many as 100,000 crashes from driver fatigue each year, with an estimated 1,550 deaths, 71,000 peoples injured, causing $12.5 billion economic losses. These figures may be the tip of the iceberg, since currently it is difficult to attribute crashes to sleepiness. In India about 250 people die in road accidents every day. It is estimated that 10-20% of fatal accidents and about 5 to 10% of all car accidents may be related to tired drivers. From many years there was no such system available for accident prevention. Because of accident happening, there is loss of human life & also vehicle gets damaged. Therefore we are implementing this system for securing drivers, passenger’s life. The proposed system using ARM7,the technique for detects drowsiness of is by monitoring the response of the driver. This involves periodically requesting the driver to send a response to the system to indicate alertness.
The eye blink frequency increases beyond the normal rate in the fatigued state. An alcohol sensor is used for the purpose of alcohol detection. Distance measurement of an object in front or back side of a moving vehicle. A turn and tilt sensor is used for head movement detection for sleepy mode.
In the proposed system, through ultrasonic sensor we will measure distance up to 3m. Yaw, pitch and roll this three head movements will monitor by tilt sensor. Alcohol will detect by MQ-3 sensor. A pair of IR transmitter and receiver for eye blink detection is used. If there is no pupil found for the certain period of pre-determined time then an alarm is produced.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : The majority of car accidents are caused by bad driving: driver lack of attention, Speeding, Racing, Aggressive driving. In India about 250 people die in road accidents every day. Accidents can be happens to the specific driving causes include falling asleep, alcohol, drugs& drunk driving; driver distractions which includes cell phones, playing music. Because of this issue we proposed this system.
