Single Molecule "TIC10" Can Destroy Cancer Cells

The cure for cancer has been going on right from its first diagnosis and recently a team of researchers might have found the answer. The team from Pennsylvania State University have identified a single molecule called TIC10, that boots up the tumor destroying system of the body, causing it to kill the cancer cells dead.

After a series of experiments on mice, it was found that the TIC10 activates a protein gene called TRAIL which is short for tumour-necrosis-factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand which destroys cancerous cells. The TIC10 was experimented and found to work on a variety of tumours including breast, lymphatic, colon and lung cancer. The TRAIL protein was looked into earlier but wasn't exploited successfully.

Though the initial testing was done on mice, researchers will test the molecule on different species. Following further successful attempts would finally lead to human subjects and the dream of conquering cancer would come true.
