Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Features & Specifications Overview

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9" was officially announced at the CTIA 2011 in Orlando, USA few hours ago. The tablet enthusiasts have been waiting to hear about the tablet features and specifications. Here's our quick overview of what's inside the Galaxy Table 8.9 inch. Samsung officials have mentioned that the company believes in "One Size Doesn't Suit All" philosophy and that's why they've a lineup of 7", 10.1" and now the 8.9" tablet and they have consumer surveys to back their belief. Galaxy Tab 8.9 Feature Overview


Hardware:


Most of our guesses were correct. The new tablet beats the competition with its size. Samsung engineers have definitely done a fantastic job packing all the great hardware into a very thin 0.33" case, thinner than the iPad2. The tablet weighs only 1.03 pounds making it easy to carry with you in office, college or on a tour. The MicroSD slot is available as in the 10.1" version which provides additional storage of up to 32GB, enough for any user with extra data storage demands. There's a standard stereo jack, 3.5mm so that you can connect any stereo headset to it and also connect it to larger speakers. Taking a step ahead of Apple's iPad 2, the tablet features a SIM slot (standard 6-PIN) which makes it compatible with large array of networks available in different countries across the globe.The Wi-Fi versions of both these tablets are available. The cameras are impressive as well, the rear camera is features 720p video capture abilities and front facing 2MP camera can be used efficiently for video conferencing.The rear camera is accompanied by LED flash.

On the inside, Galaxy Tab uses 1Ghz Dual-Core processor making your tab experience really fast and enjoyable. Whether it's NVIDIA's Tegra 2 is not confirmed yet. The device is powered by a powerful 6000 mAh battery which will last up to at least 8 hours on continues play. Which means, you will still have lot of battery life left for entire day of meeting after watching a full length movie on your flight. The tablet will be available in 16 & 32 GB versions. The tablet is expected to arrive early summer.

The screen is impressive as well. The tablet features WXGA (1280×800) screen, 8.9" wide. On the back side, Samsung has included easy grip pad so that it's convenient to hold the tablet in one hand while using your finger to operate it. The new tablet is 4G capable and supports HSPA+ 21Mbps speeds.

Software:


The Samsung Galaxy Tab series features Google's Android Operating System. The 7" tablet used Android 2.1, while the new tablets are make the use of Honeycomb (Android 3) which is specifically designed for the tablets. Samsung has gone one step ahead and included the Touch Wiz 4.0 UI, with Live Panel - which shows updates in real time from various apps like Email, Weather, Business News, RSS Feeds etc. The tablet elevates the Honeycomb experience with a layer of Samsung's proprietary TouchWiz GUI. The software also features a new 'Mini App Tray' which hides the screen icons when you don't need them and also makes them available for quick launch.

Samsung has unveiled the galaxy tablet prices as follows -

16 GB Version: $469

32 GB Version: $569

The pricing makes the tablet very competitive. The tablets are expected to launch in US in early summer this year and there is no official word on its launch in other countries.
