Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 Arrives In India For Rs. 13,990
Samsung is facing tough competition from Xiaomi when it comes to the budget smartphone segment. Last year, things turned in Xiaomiâs favour as it climbed to number one spot when it came to smartphone sales in India thanks to its budget smartphones like the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4. Samsung currently has the edge when it comes to high-end smartphones with the launch of its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Now it is looking to gain back some customers by quietly launching the new Galaxy J7 Prime 2 in India. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 has been priced at Rs. 13,990 and will be arriving in stores, both online and offline soon. So does this smartphone have features that can compete with Xiaomiâs mid-range juggernaut, the Redmi Note series which is similarly priced? Letâs find out.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 borrows some design elements from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 series with its metal unibody design and 2.5D curved glass at the front. The company says that the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass but does not mention which generation it belongs to. The display on the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is a 5.5inch Full HD resolution display. If you are a display aficionado you might have caught on the fact that this does not have the new 18:9 aspect ratio that most current smartphones from Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo opt for. The screen size with the thick bezels on top and bottom make the display look smaller than it is when the smartphone is held by the customer. Xiaomi clearly takes the lead in the display department with its new 18:9 aspect ratio 5.99inch display.
Underneath the hood, Samsung informs us that it has an Exynos 7 Series chipset. Now Samsung does not mention if it is the old 7870 chipset which we found on the old Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime or something newer and more powerful. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 runs the slightly old Android Nougat operating system which we hope would get updated to Oreo in the near future. Both the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro supersede the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 in terms of raw performance, internal memory and multitasking capabilities.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 tries to regain some points in its favour by adding a 13MP camera on the rear and a 13MP camera on the front. This plan to appease the discerning smartphone customer goes in vain as for just a smidge above the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2âs price tag you get dual-camera (12 + 5MP) setup on the rear and a 20MP camera on the front on the Redmi Note 5 Pro. One of the redeeming features of the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is that it has dedicated dual SIM trays and a separate microSD card slot for memory expansion. You get a fingerprint sensor on the home button and a headphone jack.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is powered by a 3300mAh battery which would coast along very well when it comes to a day of use. The only reason you should go for the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is if you are a loyal Samsung customer and the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro are hard to grab due to flash sales.
