Attention Mozilla fans, we have good news for you. When you upgrade your Firefox for Android to its latest version you will be able to run Firefox OS apps on your Android device. Since all Open Web Apps developed for the Firefox OS run on a browser it is not surprising to find Android being able to run these apps but the good news here is that Firefox OS apps get treated as naive Android apps and are not confined to the browser environment. You can download Firefox OS apps from the Marketplace (Firefox OS app store) install them, create shortcuts on the home screen and even use the Android uninstaller to get rid of the apps. The apps also come up on App Drawer and Recent Apps list.

With the introduction of this feature, Mozilla hopes to attract more developers for creating apps by showing them that their apps now have a bigger platform to run on. The company states in its Firefox OS Apps run on Android - Mozilla Hacks - the Web developer blog that existing Firefox OS apps will run on Android apps without any changes in the code. Considering the fact that about this point in the article you are tempted to give Firefox OS apps on your Android device a try, we would like to inform you that the performance of some apps might not be as smooth as expected. In the long run this move will benefit end users, developers and Mozilla.

So we would like our community members to give this a whirl and describe their experience in this thread or by creating a new one on the forum. Before concluding we leave you with a demonstration video from Mozilla.
