Well i know, the best practised i used to follow was to highlight my projects or assignments before my academic credentials it really helped when i am applying to specialised jobs,if you are looking for software jobs then your resume should highlight your academic credentials since they call for written test in bulk numbers!!!!

I think they are a waste of time. You might as well go to the Dilbert.com mission statement generator and get something (I'm kidding). Spend your effort proofreading your resume and writing an outstanding and error-free cover letter. Spend some effort researching the company before sending the cover letter. Don't worry about a personal statement. They can only hurt you.

That seems to be a good idea.. But we must also try and develop our own writing skills too. So, it'd be better to try it out ourselves first, and then go for pro help.

Well, I wrote my own resume and I was told my resume kicks a$$ 😀 [at least, the formatting & presentation 😉 ]

I figure that writing of this caliber is not my strong point, so I succumb to professionals. You get maybe 30 seconds to make or break a review of your resume. That's a gamble I don't want to take with 6 figure compensations over a $200 resume.
