The name's "Redstone"! Microsoft's engineers seem to have named the next major upgrade to Windows 10 likely to be released next year. While we all are waiting for Windows 10 to release in the next few weeks, the engineering team at Microsoft has already began planning for the next major upgrade to the operating system Microsoft is betting big on. The codename for the project was unearthed by #-Link-Snipped-# Brad Sams yesterday. Not much is known about the update yet.

Windows 10 was internally named 'Threshold'. Mary Jo Foley of Microsoft's 'Redstone': An update to Windows 10 due in 2016 | ZDNET claims that according to her sources, there will be one minor upgrade to Windows 10 by the end of this year and the Redstone updated will be due for 2016 release. Foley also notes that the Redstone won't be Windows 11 or Windows 12; it will continue to be released as Windows 10. The update will be delivered automatically to all the Windows 10 installations worldwide and it will bring new functionality to the OS.

Not much is known about the feature list planned for Redstone. We can very well expect improved hardware support and inclusion of services in the Microsoft ecosystem viz. Xbox Surface Hub, Windows Phone, Microsoft Hololens : Reality Is Now A Matrix! et al. Foley got in touch with Microsoft officials for an official comment, but as expected Microsoft declined to comment.

We'll keep you updated about Microsoft Redstone. Do let us know what features do you expect to see in coming versions of Windows.
